Statement in Support of Anti-Racism

The Canadian Association for Young Children (CAYC) exists to provide a critical voice on issues related to childhood and children. CAYC joins a multitude of voices and organizations in actively refusing decades of systemic injustice and oppressions that continue to operate on the lands now known as Canada. CAYC stands with the Black Lives Matter movement and with First Nations, Inuit and Métis people, on whose lands the nation state of Canada is built. We recognize that children are not equally positioned, and many live precarious lives confronting racism and oppression. Acknowledging that we function within educational institutions that are built on systemic racism, CAYC unites with educators, caregivers, families, students, researchers, policy-makers, and others toward disrupting inequities.
